APR 5 – MAY 5 EXHIBITION: Wavelengths: Abstract Selections from the Paul R. Jones Collection, Paul R. Jones Gallery
Dr. Bridget R. Cooks, a leading scholar on African American art and culture, will speak on Exhibiting Blackness: African Americans and the American Art Museum, Wednesday, April 4 at 7 p.m. in room 205 of Smith Hall on the UA campus.
The lecture is free and open to the public and is part of the Paul R. Jones Lecture Series in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Cook has also curated, Wavelengths: Abstract Selections from the Paul R. Jones Collection, at the Paul R. Jones Gallery in downtown Tuscaloosa, April 4 – May 5. A reception for Cooks and the exhibition will be held April 5 from 6-8 p.m. at the Paul R. Jones Gallery.

Grand Opening of the Paul R. Jones Gallery of Art on Jan. 28 
It will showcase “When Words Fall Short,” featuring a selection of works from the Paul R. Jones Collection of American Art, which is managed by the department of art and art history in The University of Alabama’s College of Arts and Sciences.

The Paul R. Jones Collection of American Art includes one of the largest and most comprehensive collections of twentieth-century African American art in the world, amassed over decades by Paul Raymond Jones, who has been described by Art & Antiques magazine as “one of the top art collectors in the country.” Jones donated the 1,700-plus piece collection valued at more than $4.8 million to the College of Arts and Sciences at The University of Alabama in October 2008. The collection includes more than 600 artists, including Romare Bearden, Prentice Herman (P. H.) Polk, Jacob Lawrence, and Benny Andrews. For more information, click here.
