Morgan Price on his work: “The monotypes and lithographs in this exhibition showcase my ongoing exploration of personal ambivalence. Violence, power, age, culture, and race all inform these portraits, as I seek to create images that ride the line between mockery and memorial. Humor and seriousness, tenderness and aggression, appeal and disgust- it is in their intersections that I find moments of magic. Through these works I ask myself questions about my individual and cultural identity that I do not think have easy answers, but I believe that sometime it is the act of asking questions that is essential.”

Price is assistant professor of art at Illinois State University and exhibits his work nationally and internationally. He also serves as President of the Mid America Print Council. He received his BFA from the University of Denver and his MFA in printmaking from Wichita State University. Prior to coming to Illinois State University, Price taught at the University of Denver, Metropolitan State University of Denver and the Kendall College of Art and Design. He recently attended the Tamarind Institute of Lithography Summer Aluminum Plate Workshop and was a resident at the Jentel Artist Residency Program. Price collaborates on a number of professional printing projects with Normal Editions Workshop where he is Interim Associate Director. His website is here.
