Northport native and UA art alumnus Patrick O’Brien (BA 2015) will present an exhibition, Altar of the Flesh, at the Gallery at Canterbury Chapel during the month of August. There will be a reception Friday, August 7 from 6:00 to 8:30 pm in the Student Center at Canterbury Chapel.
O’Brien, who defines himself as a surrealist painter, writes, “I focus on the construction of ‘di-vine’ artifacts as they would be discerned in an alternative universe. This body of work recontextualizes our associations with light and dark by first depicting them through classical painting. I then convert these abstract associations into physical objects, specifically describing them through their monumentality and baffling imagery.”
O’Brien’s work was exhibited in March in EXIT 2015 in the Sella-Granata Art Gallery. In April, he participated in the jazz-inspired “Anthony Braxton: Falling River Music Exhibition” at the UA Gallery in the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center.
