UA Artist Creates ‘Ant Farm’ for Humans in Solo Exhibition

Jamey Grimes, Wash, IXXd, Chipola Center for the Arts, Marianna, Fla.

Instructor and UA art alumnus Jamey Grimes presents a solo exhibition, Formicarium, through March 14 in Jones-Carter Gallery, Lake City, South Carolina. Grimes who uses synthetic materials to represent nature, transforms the gallery into a giant ant farm or formicarium. He has fashioned his plastic medium into tunnels of light and shadow, to be explored by humans, rather than ants. The surface colors change over time, dynamically shifting the viewer’s interpretation of depth and form.
