The Alabama State Council on the Arts just announced its artist and arts organization grant awards for 2023. The Paul R. Jones Museum (PRJM) received a grant to support the solo exhibition of Michael C. Thorpe in spring of 2023. Thorpe is a textile artist who makes art quilts. His work is in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and many private collections.

The museum’s spring exhibition program opens in January with its annual K-12 Show, this year featuring art by sixth graders from Albert School of Performing Arts, inspired by artwork from the Paul R. Jones Collection of American Art. Michael C. Thorpe’s solo exhibition will run March 3 to April 28. To round out the semester, in May, students from Associate Professor Sarah Marshall’s printmaking class at UA will create prints inspired by works from the Jones Collection and will curate an exhibition including both. The museum will feature a First Friday reception for each show. More information about each exhibition will be forthcoming.
