Our Alumni Spotlight Series focuses on UA art alumni who are in the midst of an art career now, whether they are continuing with schooling or have taken their art skills out into the work world.
The online learning community Skillshare announced that they have added UA art alumna and multidisciplinary designer Laci Jordan (BA 2011, digital media) to their online classes. Her digital illustration class (“Discover, Cultivate and Share Your Unique Personal Style”) has more than 4,400 followers.
In a blog and video interview, No Blueprint, Jordan talks about how she has gotten where she is, how she inspires herself and who she wants to inspire. Here are some excerpts from her video:
- “Art gives me a voice to speak about almost anything that I want to say: activism, music, pop culture, empowerment.”
- “I love the stories that I’m currently telling which…revolve around black representation, black people, black culture.”
- “You’ve just got to keep going no matter what…don’t let anything stop you.”
- “I don’t think there are any limits. The only limits that exist are the ones that I create mentally.”
Jordan has designed for Walt Disney Imagineering, Ulta, REI, and more. Her artwork has been featured in the New York Times, on ESPN’s news site The UnDefeated, on Amplifier, an online “art machine for social change,” and on Wildfang.com. She is a senior graphic designer at Creative Artists Agency and specializes in branding, digital illustrations, web and art direction at her own company, So Laci Like.
