Art Grad Students’ Work Recognized in National Juried Exhibitions

Zoe Fitch, Mississippi Migrant Mother, 2020

Two Master of Fine Arts degree candidates in the UA Department of Art and Art History, Zoe Fitch and Shivam Pawar, have spent the summer submitting their artwork to national juried exhibitions. They each presented MA thesis exhibitions in the spring of 2021.

Shivam Pawar, ‘रोटी, कपड़ा, मकान,’ charcoal, acrylic and blind emboss on Fabriano paper.

Zoe Fitch won first place for her painting, Mississippi Migrant Mother, in the In Art Gallery’s online exhibition, Me, Myself & I. It was one of two of her paintings juried into the show; the other was Front Porch Sittin’. The juror was Buzz Spector, an artist, writer and professor emeritus of art at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Fitch also had work selected for the 11th “Open” Online Art Competition (Painting & Other Media Category) in the online Light Space Time Gallery. Fitch’s large acrylic painting and screenprint work, Kudzu in the Thick, was one of the paintings selected for special recognition.

Shivam Pawar’s mixed media print, ‘रोटी, कपड़ा, मकान’ (charcoal, acrylic and blind emboss on Fabriano paper), was juried into Cimmaron National Works on Paper Exhibition, hosted by Oklahoma State University’s Gardiner Gallery of Art. The show received over 450 submissions and accepted 48 pieces. Larissa Goldston, director and a co-owner of Universal Limited Art Editions (ULAE) was the juror.  The exhibition will run from August 16 to September 17, 2021. The closing reception, with a talk by Goldston, will be held at the Gardiner Gallery of Art at the Bartlett Center in Oklahoma State University campus in Stillwater on September 14, 2021, at 5:00 pm.
