Art History Instructor Paints Plein Air in Fairhope

Art history instructor Kelly Gentry was a participating artist in the Eastern Shore Art Center’s annual “plein air Fairhope” event, October 31 – November 5, 2022. About sixty local artists were selected to paint the city of Fairhope, “sunrise to sunset,” from all sorts of vantage points during the week. The public was able to stroll from one artist’s easel to another and watch as paintings were being created. The artists will display their resulting artworks at the Plein Air Fairhope exhibition at Eastern Shore Art Center, November 4 – December 30, 2022.

Kelly Gentry has taught art history in the UA Department of Art History since 2017. Previously she worked as a tour guide and gallery attendant at the Birmingham (Ala.) Museum of Art. Gentry holds a Master of Arts in art history from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (2016) and received undergraduate degrees from New Mexico State University summa cum laude and the University of Alabama in Huntsville cum laude.
