Artist Rebecca Rutstein to Present Online Talk at UA

The Collaborative Arts Research Initiative (CARI) and the College of Arts and Sciences are pleased to present an online artist talk by Rebecca Rutstein titled “The intersection of Art and Science,” hosted by Dr. Julia Cartwright, on Zoom, Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at 5 PM. Artist Rebecca Rutstein will be talking about her experience bridging the arts and sciences, and her previous collaborations and exhibitions. Rutstein is collaborating with Assistant Professor and CARI fellow Dr. Julia Cartwright (Geological Sciences) and will touch on the research that they have planned.

Rebecca Rutstein is an award-winning, multidisciplinary artist whose work spans painting, sculpture, interactive installation and public art. Rutstein creates work at the intersection of art, science and technology. She is passionate about creating visual experiences that shed light on the natural world, forging a dialogue about stewardship in the face of climate change. She has been an artist-in-residence at locations around the world, including six expeditions at sea and two dives to the ocean floor in the Alvin submersible. Her collaborations with scientists have been funded by the National Science Foundation, National Academies of Science / Keck Futures Initiative, Ocean Exploration Trust and Schmidt Ocean Institute. Rutstein has received the prestigious Pew Fellowship in the Arts, an Independence Foundation Fellowship, a Philadelphia Foundation Grant, a Pennsylvania Council on the Arts grant, is an MIT Ocean Discovery Fellow, and was recently named the Delta Visiting Chair for Global Understanding.
