Department of Art and Art History Instructor Charlotte Wegrzynowski took her children to work Monday and they helped the children of other faculty and staff make prints during Take Our Children to Work Day, sponsored by UA’s Women and Gender Resource Center. “This is the second year that the department has presented a printmaking workshop. Last year we did it in Woods Hall; this year I used a room at the Ferguson Center. My boys were acting as my assistants. We had fourteen kids signed up,” she reported. The day before, Wegrzynowski – who has an MFA in Book Arts from UA and teaches drawing and design – and her sons Sam and Ben prepared plates for their Styrofoam plate printmaking workshop. Wegrzynowski and her husband are both artists and UA instructors and their sons have grown up around art-making. She said that during the workshop they pulled more than thirty prints in forty-five minutes. “The clean-up may last for days,” she laughed and added, “It was madness, but good fun.”
Take Our Children to Work Day is a national event that has been ongoing for over twenty years. On November 20, 2017, The University of Alabama hosted the event for the third time here at the Capstone. This year’s event will be sponsored by the Women and Gender Resource Center, Ferguson Student Center and Graduate Parent Support Programs. Faculty, staff and UA students who are parents were invited to bring their children (ages 8 – 18) to campus for a day of activities that exposed them to opportunities for learning and growth available to them here at The University of Alabama.
