Ceramic Artist Julie Malen to Speak at UA

Artist Julie Malen will speak about her ceramic-based sculpture practice this Friday, October 21 at 12:30 pm in Bureau of Mines 5 room 114. Space is limited and it will be important to come early to secure a seat. Malen will be part of the upcoming exhibition Clay+/Invitational in the Sarah Moody Gallery of Art Oct. 27 through December 21, with an artists’ reception November 4, 2022.

Julie Malen currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. Her work has been exhibited nationally including at the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design, Denver, Colorado; the Urban Institute of Contemporary Art, Grand Rapids, Michigan; and most recently in Mana Contemporary, Jersey City, New Jersey. In addition to her studio practice, Malen works as a technician in the sculpture program at Columbia University in New York. Malen has taught visual art courses at several institutions including VCUarts (Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts) and Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, where she was also an Artist in Residence in ceramics for the 2015-16 academic year. Malen has participated in numerous other residences including Anderson Ranch Art Center, in Snowmass Village, Colorado; Mildred’s Lane in Narrowsburg, New York; and the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vermont.
