Work by Assistant Professor Allison Grant was recently chosen for Atlanta Photography Group’s exhibition, PORTFOLIO 2020, juried by Sarah Kennel, photography curator of the High Museum of Art. “Eight exceptional artists were chosen to represent the best of contemporary photography from a national call for entries,” according to the website. In February, Grant was awarded third place prize in the PhotoNOLA 2019 Review after two days of in-person meetings with influential members of the photographic community, including gallery owners, editors, publishers and museum curators, who then vote for three outstanding projects. Grant’s work will be featured on the PhotoNOLA website and she will be offered a feature on LENSCRATCH, the noted journal of contemporary photography.
In addition to these awards, Grant’s curatorial work is featured on Buzzfeed in an online exhibition titled “These Powerful Photos Prove How Universal Motherhood Really Is.” While she was assistant curator in 2014 at the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, Grant curated the online exhibition portion of a “real” exhibition titled, Home Truths: Photography and Motherhood at the MoCP. “Allison compiled all of these wonderful pictures from our collection that actually literally depict motherhood in progress and then put them up on our site, so it’s a really nice resource,” Chief Curator and Deputy Director Karen Irvine told Buzzfeed in an interview.
