UA Alumni Artists Featured at Vulcan Materials Gallery

UA art alumni Astri Snodgrass (MFA 2015) and Ty Smith (BFA 2001) have a two-person show, Edge & Vision, at the Alabama School of Fine Arts’ Vulcan Materials Gallery in Birmingham, Ala. The exhibition runs Jan. 30 through Feb. 26.

Montgomery native Ty Smith received the BFA from The University of Alabama in 2001 where he studied under Al Sella. Smith received the MFA from the University of Tulsa in 2009 and attended the summer program at the Chautauqua School of Art. Smith lives in Birmingham, Alabama, and serves as adjunct faculty at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Auburn University. Recent exhibitions include juried exhibitions at the Bowery Gallery and Blue Mountain Gallery in New York; and group shows at Biggin Gallery, Auburn, Ala.; and Ground Floor Contemporary in Birmingham. Smith has curated exhibitions at Ground Floor Contemporary and East Side Project Space in Nashville.

Astri Snodgrass is an assistant professor of drawing and painting at Boise State University. She received the MFA in painting from The University of Alabama and the BA in art and Spanish from Luther College. Her work has been exhibited nationally in solo and group shows at COOP Gallery, mild climate, and Channel to Channel in Nashville, the Fuel and Lumber Company in Birmingham, Ala., the Sarah Moody Gallery of Art in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and McNeese State University’s Grand Gallery in Lake Charles, La., among others. She is a Hambidge Fellow and a VCCA Fellow and has been artist-in-residence at Studios Midwest.
