About
Amy Smoot teaches Intro to Ceramics, Ceramics I, Ceramics II and Figurative Modeling. Smoot has been included in group exhibitions including ArtFields 2019, Lake City, S.C.; Small Favors, The Clay Studio, Philadelphia, Penn.; Currents 2018: An Honest Attempt, Gary R. Libby Gallery, Gainesville, Fla.; and After School Special, an NCECA Pop-Up Exhibition, Pittsburgh, Penn.
Smoot received the MFA in ceramics from UA and the BFA in ceramics from the University of West Georgia where she was a studio assistant in ceramics and a student research assistant. Smoot was awarded Outstanding Graduate Student in Studio Art at UA. She was awarded the Dr. Judith Temple Scholarship at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts; and a Graduate Council Fellowship at UA. She was one of three artists selected for Air Air in 2017, an artist residency where artists make art on airplanes.
Smoot has been a demonstrating artist at the Kentuck Festival of the Arts, has participated in workshops at Penland School of Crafts and Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. In the spring of 2017, Smoot gave a 19th-century ceramics presentation at historic Lyon Hall in Demopolis, Ala. and led a “Fifty-Minute Heads” workshop at the 2017 Georgia High School Clay Symposium (at UWG). During her tenure as a graduate student, she served two years as president of Crimson Clay, as well as treasurer of the organization.
