Katharine Murray is a graduate student in printmaking with an assistantship. She teaches 2D Design (ART 130) and assists in printmaking courses. Murray has worked as a print assistant at Frogman’s Print Workshop at the University of Iowa and recently presented a monotype workshop at Paperworkers Local. She also was an assistant instructor in printmaking for the 2022 UA Art Camp.

Murray has shown artwork in numerous juried exhibitions including 2024 Paper & Clay at Utah State University; Alabama A to Z: 45th Biennial Museum Exhibition hosted by the Montgomery (AL) Museum of Fine Art; INK ONLY IV: National Biennial Juried Exhibition of Contemporary Printmaking, Birmingham, AL; Susan N. McCollough Fine Arts Initiative, Tuscaloosa; 2023 Delta National Small Prints Exhibition, Jonesboro, Arkansas. She held a solo exhibition, Stay Awhile, at Paperworkers Local, Birmingham, Alabama, in 2024. Murray has exhibited in numerous invitational and group shows and portfolio exchanges, including Fat Print: Confatty, at ARTS/West, Athens, Ohio; Lasting Impressions, Paul R. Jones Museum, Tuscaloosa; Pastime: The Relationship Between our Past Creativity and our Present Selves, Meadows Museum of Art at Centenary College, Shreveport, Louisiana; and Cultural Shifts, MAKEbhm, Birmingham.

Murray was awarded a Levitetz 2023 Innovation Seed Grant, a McNair Tuition Scholarship at UA, as well as a graduate assistantship at UA. This summer (2024) she will serve a second time as a print assistant at Frogman’s Print Workshop at the University of Iowa. Along with teaching 2D Design and assisting in printmaking courses at UA, Murray has worked as a gallery assistant at the Paul R. Jones Museum.

As an undergrad, Murray was a Katzenberger art history intern for the Smithsonian’s National Postal Museum. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Art from the University of Montevallo and an associate’s degree from Wallace Community College in Dothan, Alabama. At the University of Montevallo, she was a McNair Research Scholar in Sculpture and Sustainability and received the Green Fund award to build a public sculpture in the form of a music wall.
