About
René Thompson is an instructor teaching Drawing I in the department. She received the MFA in studio art with a concentration in painting and a certificate of museum studies from The University of Alabama. In April 2022, she presented her MFA thesis exhibition, Fragments, at The University of Alabama Gallery in the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center.
Thompson has been awarded an artist residency at ArtRez in Newnan, Georgia for August 2023. Her painting, Comfort in the Panic, was selected for ITSLIQUID ANIMA MUNDI at the Venice International Art Fair 2022. Her work has been selected for numerous juried exhibitions including the 4th Annual Lines, Shapes, & Objects (July 2022), Online Juried Art Exhibition, Fusion Art; the Tennessee Valley Museum of Art’s national juried exhibition, Emergence; for the online In Art Gallery; and for the show, Open Exhibition, at the Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery. As one of the requirements for the museum studies certificate, she served as the project manager for the 2022 exhibition, Weaving Muscogee Creek Culture: The Artistry of Mary Smith, at the Mildred Westervelt Warner Transportation Museum in Tuscaloosa.
