Before coming to The University of Alabama in 2018 to teach digital media and graphic design, Jonathan Cumberland taught at Mississippi University for Women. Cumberland has an active practice in design and illustration. He currently focuses on creating digital posters that employ visual metaphors to address issues surrounding the environment, human rights and cultural events. This year, his work has been selected for 12 international poster exhibitions, including in Poland, Belarus and Mexico. Select clients include: Johns Hopkins Magazine, Scholastic Magazine, Mississippi Tourism Association, Mississippi University for Woman, Marin Magazine and Charleston Magazine. Cumberland has garnered recognition from the American Institute of Graphic Arts, Creative Quarterly and the Tuscaloosa American Advertising Federation.
