The UA Department of Art & Art History offers a wide variety of merit- and need-based scholarships to current and incoming students. In 2025, 50 students brought home more than $120,000 in scholarships!

Scholarships for Current Undergraduate Students

2026-27 Studio Art and Graphic Design Scholarships
Note: Scholarship submissions for the 2026-27 cycle have closed.
Deadline: Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at noon CST
Application steps for Studio Art and Graphic Design majors:
- Download and complete the following three forms:
- ART/GDS Scholarship Application form
- Grade Audit form (Microsoft Excel spreadsheet)
- Degree Works profile
- Note: Save your entire Degree Works profile (including all courses completed and in progress) as a PDF, and include it in your application file.
- Once completed, combine these three documents into a single PDF titled lastname_firstname_art.pdf.
- Email this single PDF to uaartscholarship@ua.edu by Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at noon CST.
- Check your emails for instructions to participate in the Feb 6 Portfolio Review. Instructions will vary for Advanced, Intermediate, and Foundations groups. All applicants will be contacted via email for further instructions.
2026-27 Art History Scholarships

- An ARH writing sample (see guidelines)

The Farley Moody Galbraith Endowed Scholarship

ART, ARH, and GDS majors are invited to apply for The Farley Moody Galbraith Endowed Scholarship. Mrs. Galbraith established this specialized scholarship to support talented students of the department who demonstrate financial or personal need.
Application steps:
- Complete your ART / ARH application as described above.
- Write a brief statement (maximum of one single-spaced page) labeled with your name and “FMG statement of need” that details financial or personal need. Please describe how a scholarship award will benefit you. This information will be kept confidential within the Scholarship Committee.
- Include your statement within your application PDF and email your application to uaartscholarship@ua.edu by Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at noon CST.

Scholarship FAQs
- Declared ART majors with at least 3 ART credit hours completed at UA
- Minimum 2.5 overall GPA and 3.0 GPA in ART/ARH courses
- Full-time enrollment at UA as an ART major for at least one semester of the 2024-2025 academic year
- Previous scholarship recipients are eligible
- Incoming high school and transfer students, and current students (both undergraduate and graduate)
- The deadline for application submission for current students is Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at noon CST The incoming student scholarship deadline is TBD.
- The scholarship review for current studio art majors will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026.
- Funds will be available for the coming academic year (Fall 2026, Spring 2027).
Through the generosity of many donors over the years including departmental alumni, former faculty members, and supporters of the arts, we provide merit- and need-based scholarships for student education.
There are multiple sources of scholarship information at UA, including Undergraduate Scholarships, Graduate School Financial Support and Student Financial Aid.
- Awards are given as monetary scholarships toward tuition for the 2026-27 academic year only.
- Awards may not be applied to Summer 2026 courses.
- Students planning to graduate in December 2026 may receive a 50% award level to fund a single semester (fall) of the 2026-2027 academic year.
- You can use Adobe Acrobat to combine multiple files (of various kinds) into one PDF document.
- To obtain free student access to Adobe Acrobat, please visit OIT’s website.
- You may create a document or “slide” in Google Docs, load in the various components of your application, and export as a PDF. Be sure to open the saved PDF and check for accuracy.
- Alternatively, you may load your application components into a Word Document and save them as a PDF.
