Four UA Art Majors Featured in SGA Exhibition

Four artists are featured in this year’s SGA Student Artwork Exhibition, which opens with a reception on Thursday, November 2, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. The artists, Abi Brewer, Cecily Downey, Emily Rabbideau and Aisley Walaitis, are all senior art majors in the UA Department of Art and Art History. The exhibition is on the sixth floor of Gorgas Library on UA campus and will run through April 30, 2024.

Aisley Walaitis, from Manchester, Missouri, is earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in studio art with a concentration in painting and ceramics. She has been awarded the Mary M. Morgan Memorial Art Scholarship. She is on Instagram: @artbyaisley.

Emily Rabbideau, from Hoover, Alabama, is earning a Bachelor of Arts in studio art and creative media with a minor in Spanish. Emily is also part of the University Honors program. She has been awarded the Bradley Endowed Scholarship, the Carolyn Haddon “Julie” Matthews Memorial Endowed Scholarship, and the Farley Moody Galbraith Endowed Scholarship. Cecily Downey, from Dothan, Alabama, is earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in studio art with a concentration in drawing and printmaking. She is also part of the University Honors program. She has been awarded the Elizabeth B. Bashinsky Endowed Art Scholarship and the Marilyn Williams Elmore Endowed Art Scholarship. She also recently exhibited her work in Souvenirs: Spain’s Influence on Student Artwork in the Sella-Granata Art Gallery. She is on Instagram: @cecilydowneyart

Abi Brewer, from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, is earning a Bachelor of Arts in international studies and studio art with a concentration in painting and a minor in Chinese. Brewer is also part of the CREATE Path to MBA and University Honors programs. Brewer recently exhibited her work in 60th Annual Bluff Park Art Show, 52nd Kentuck Festival of the Arts, Moss Rock Fine Art Festival, 2023 Tennessee Collegiate Art Competition and 36th annual West Alabama Juried Show. As Abi Brewer Fine Art, she is a member of the West Alabama Chamber of Commerce, and she has been the key recruiter and organizer of artist demos during Tuscaloosa First Friday Art Walks. She has been awarded the Mary M. Morgan Memorial Art Scholarship, the Ann D Lary Scholarship, and the Windgate Charitable Foundation Endowed Studio Arts Scholarship.
