Four MFA candidates in the UA Department of Art and Art History had their work included in national exhibitions or publications.
UA grad students in printmaking Upneet Kaur Mair and Shivam Pawar had work published in the August 2021 issue of The Hand: A Magazine for Reproduction-Based Art. Kaur Mair’s large silkscreen and relief print on muslin (54 x 92 inches), titled Welcome to the Club, which was part of her MA exhibition, was selected. Two by Shivam Pawar were chosen: the woodcut print, New Currency 2020, and a mixed media installation, New Currency 2021 – Coin (woodcut, acrylic, and found bricks), which were both a part of his MA exhibition.
Grad student René Thompson had a painting, titled 2020, chosen for Special Recognition in the Open Exhibition at the Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery. She was also named one of five July 2021 Artists of the Month by ArtJobs. Thompson is a third-year grad student in painting and is also working on a certificate in museum studies.
Sandra Vega’s screenprint, Genealógico (pictured above), was selected for the online exhibition Textures & Patterns at Las Lagunas Gallery in Las Lagunas, California, August 5-28, 2021. The work was part of Vega’s MA thesis exhibition, Caminos de Identidad, in the Sella-Granata Art Gallery in March 2021.
