Abigail Brewer and Nathan Childers were each awarded Individual Artist grants for projects they proposed to The Arts Council of Tuscaloosa.
Brewer, who is earning a BA in international studies and studio art, has an art business, Abi Brewer Fine Art, through which she offers workshops and demonstrations. Her grant proposal is for funding for the art materials she uses in her workshops including the free workshops she will begin offering in retirement homes and hospitals in 2024, as well as the public art demonstrations she currently presents during First Friday Art Walks. Brewer, who exhibits her work around the state, is a member of the West Alabama Chamber of Commerce and has been the key organizer for the First Friday Demonstrating Artists program. She is part of the CREATE Path to MBA and University Honors programs and has a minor in Chinese.
Nathan Childers, a third-year MFA candidate in painting, recently won Best in Show at the inaugural Susan Nomberg McCollough Fine Arts Initiative exhibition.
The Individual Artist grants are part of the annual Small Grants Program of The Arts and Humanities Council of Tuscaloosa County, awarded to projects by Tuscaloosa County artists.
