BFA Alumna Ali Hval To Teach at University of Iowa

BFA alumna Ali Hval has accepted a position as lecturer in painting and drawing at the University of Iowa beginning in the spring of 2023. Hval, who received the MFA from Iowa in 2019, is an interdisciplinary artist currently living and working in Iowa City. Her work combines painting, fabric, ceramic, sculpture and installation. She is also a prolific muralist.

In 2022, Hval’s sculpture was part of a four-person exhibition at Ceysson & Bénétière in New York and reviewed in the New Yorker and Cult Bytes. A solo show, Cosmetic Justice, at North Iowa Area City College in Mason City, Iowa, was featured in the New York City Jewelry Week blog. She recently was awarded an Artist Catalyst Grant from the Iowa Arts Council, and was Stuart artist-in-residence at South Dakota State University. Hval has solo exhibitions scheduled in 2023 at the Art Center of Burlington in Iowa and the Gadsden (Alabama) Museum of Art Gadsden.
