Call for Papers for UAB/UA Art History Grad Symposium

UAB and UA art history faculty have announced a call for papers and posters for the 29th Annual UAB/UA Graduate Student Symposium in Art History! Graduate students who are working toward an MA in art history or closely related disciplines are invited to submit a 250-word abstract for a 20-minute paper presentation. Undergraduate art history majors may submit proposals for presentations of senior-level or thesis work in a poster session. All submissions are due January 31, 2024. The 29th Annual UAB/UA Graduate Student Symposium in Art History will occur on Friday, April 5, 2024, at UAB’s Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Valérie Kobi, Université de Neuchâtel, Switzerland. Dr. Kobi is an assistant professor and leader of the PRIMA research group Bibliothèques et musées en Suisse entre 18e et 19e siècles (Swiss National Science Foundation). Dr. Kobi will present material from her forthcoming book, The Artificial Eye: Art Theory and the Optical Revolution in Early Modern Europe.

The symposium will take place at the Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts on UAB campus in Birmingham, Alabama. It will be in-person only.
