Graduate Student Explores Mexican-American Identity Through Art

Poster for Borderlands exhibition by Juan Lopez-Bautista.

Graduate student Juan M. Lopez-Bautista presents an exhibition of his paintings, titled Borderlands/Zonas Fronterizas, Nov. 7, 2019-Jan. 15, 2020 in the Martin-Lett Gallery of Art in the Oxford Performing Arts Center, Oxford, Ala. There will be an opening reception, Thursday, Nov. 7 at 5:30 pm.

Lopez-Bautista said, “This painting show continues with my quest for a Mexican-American self-identity amid the political discourses of today. An exploration of the abstracted landscape from the borderlands or zonas fronterizas is initiated in this exhibition. Imagery from arid zones, bushland and rivers is researched as a starting point for my new series of paintings.”
