UA Alumni Contribute to Tuscaloosa Community Art Exhibition

Deborah Hughes at the University Medical Center, Tuscaloosa

Tuscaloosa is home to an abundance of talented artists, many of them trained over the years by faculty at The University of Alabama. UA alumni artists who stay in the area naturally find art friends and form informal art communities or art circles. Now, two art friends, Deborah Hughes – an artist and UA art alumna herself – and local artist Loretta Lynn, have corralled a wide circle of artists and friends into an exhibition, Intersecting Circles of Friends, running through June 30, 2023.

The show, part of Hughes’ Wellness Walls for Art series of exhibitions, features work by seventeen area artists, whose friendship circles intersect, including UA art alumni Becca Godfrey, Aaron Sanders Head, Janet Mego, and Tom Wegrzynowski, as well as current UA art student Abi Brewer. Also featured are artists Neel Alexander, Doug Baulos, Ian Crawford, Lorrie Lane, Scott McQueen, Caleb O’Connor, Ezekial O’Connor, Ruth Jatib O’Connor, Casey Roberts, and Charlotte Wegrzynowski. Artworks featured are drawings, hand-dyed fabric works, embroidered fabric works, art quilts, watercolors, oil paintings, and much more.

The public is encouraged to visit the exhibition Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the University Medical Center, 850 Peter Bryce Drive, Tuscaloosa.
