Tuscaloosa, AL. — The Sarah Moody Gallery of Art presents the American Abstract Artists (AAA) 75th Anniversary Portfolio Exhibition.  American Abstract Artists is a democratic, artist-run organization founded in 1936 in New York City to promote and foster understanding of abstract and non-objective art.

American Abstract Artists 75th Anniversary Print Portfolio is AAA’s fourth edition of prints, and includes works by James O. Clark, Vincent Longo, Cecily Kahn, Alice Adams, David Row, and Stephen Westfall, among others. This portfolio embraces new technologies and reflects changing artistic sensibilities in a contemporary and evolving digital era. Traditional print methods such as lithography and woodcut, found in the previous portfolios of 1937, 1987, and 1997 are replaced with new digital-based processes in this 2012 portfolio that marks the 75th anniversary of the organization. The portfolio consists of 48 archival inkjet prints with an introduction by Robert Storr, painter, critic, and dean of the Yale University School of Art.

To date, American Abstract Artists has produced over 120 exhibitions in museums and galleries across the United States and abroad. AAA’s programs have established the organization as a major forum for the exchange of ideas and exhibiting abstract art. This exhibition was organized by the Ewing Gallery of Art and Architecture, The University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

The Sarah Moody Gallery of Art is supported by the College of Arts and Sciences and the Department of Art and Art History. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 am – 4:30 pm, and Thursday evening 5:00 – 8:00 pm. The gallery is located in 103 Garland Hall in the heart of the UA campus on Woods Quad. There is no admission charge.
