Dichotomies/Dicotomías: Juan M. López-Bautista

June 7 - July 26, 2024

Juan M. López-Bautista, a Mexican American artist and biologist, creates large mixed media works of images related to people migrating to the US-Mexican border. The child of an American father and a Mexican mother, López-Bautista’s work “represents an empathetic invitation to appreciate the migratory issue…and to embrace my immigrant and hyphenated citizenship identities.”

The UA Department of Art and Art History presents the Master of Fine Arts thesis exhibition of Nathan Childers, titled Still Lives, from April 5 through May 3, 2024, in The University of Alabama Gallery in the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center in Tuscaloosa. A reception for the artist will be held Friday, April 5, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. during downtown Tuscaloosa’s First Friday Art Walk.

Roscoe Hall: Two Houses

Raised in Chicago, artist Roscoe Hall has deep Alabama roots. Hall’s background and longtime skill set are deeply entrenched in the culinary world of the South – his grandfather was John “Big Daddy” Bishop, founder of Tuscaloosa’s Dreamland Bar-B-Que. Hall, who has earned his own cooking accolades is also a rising star in the art world.

Admission to the gallery is free. Hours are Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–4 p.m., First Fridays, 12 noon–7 p.m. The UA Gallery is an essential part of the education and development of UA students and our community.
