New Monster Map Will Guide You Through T-Town

You may have been surprised to see an occasional scary monster as you stroll around downtown Tuscaloosa on a First Friday or stride along River Walk on Jack Warner Parkway. Now you can take a guided tour or hunt for the little bronze gremlins with your cell phone! An online map of some of the monsters has just been unveiled on a website devoted to the Monster Takeover project.

The monsters on the maps, plus dozens of others around downtown, have been installed over the past couple of years as part of the Tuscaloosa Public Art Initiative, a collaboration of Tuscaloosa schoolchildren and UA students under the guidance of sculpture professor Craig Wedderspoon. Check out photos of some of the first monsters below.

For more information, contact Sandy Wolfe or Kevin Ledgewood at The Arts Council (758-5195). For a story about previous monster takeover projects by UA students go to this page.
